Ingredients
- 3 cups of all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/3 cup your choice of oil (I usually use olive oil or sunflower oil)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water
How to Make Flour Tortillas
- Start with a large mixing bowl. Add your 3 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of salt and mix together.
- Make a well (little indent) into your dry ingredients and pour in the oil and water. Mix until combined with a wooden spoon.
- Using your hands, continue working the dough together to make it smooth and fully incorporated.
- Lightly flour your kitchen counter, pinch off dough into pieces around the size of a golf ball and smash flat in your hand onto the floured counter surface. Do this with all of the dough, then cover with a towel and allow it to rest for 15 minutes – 2 hours.
- When you’re ready to cook the tortillas, fire up your skillet on medium heat.
- Use a wooden rolling pin with your well floured surface to roll out the tortillas as thin as possible! We use this wooden rolling pin from Amazon. The thinner they are, the better texture you will have.
- Place the rolled out tortilla onto the skillet. When you see bubbles come across the entire tortilla, it is ready to flip! (That usually takes around 30-45 seconds).
- Cook the other side of the tortilla for about 20 seconds or until you see bubbles across the entire tortilla (it will look puffy). You will know they are done if they are slightly golden brown on each side!
- Remove from heat and ENJOY!
- Store these in an airtight container once cooled, best to store in refrigerator to keep fresh.
