Nicaragua Travel Entry Requirements Updated!
Three cheers for your next travel to Nicaragua!
Effective July 21, 2023, Nicaragua no longer requires proof of COVID vaccine or a negative PCR test in order to enter their country. Time to celebrate!
This is great news for anyone wishing to travel to Nicaragua – or – those who need to renew their visa from Costa Rica (like my family does).
My family has lived in Costa Rica since March of 2021. In order to legally stay in this beautiful country, we are required to leave and re-enter Costa Rica every 90 days. The easiest and most cost effective option for our family is to drive 3.5 hours from our home in Guanacaste province, up to the Penas Blancas border. This is the northern border of Costa Rica on the most western side.
Before Nicaragua updated their travel entry requirements, we were required to present 5 PCR covid tests which totaled around $500 USD (yikes). Additionally, it was incredibly traumatic for our very young children to have that cotton swab shoved up their nose to get this test (particularly for our youngest kids who are autistic). It caused a meltdown every single time. Our kids referred to it as the “tickle nose test”. They screamed with joy when we told them they no longer have to go through this.
Needless to say, this announcement has now made our border runs easier, with less stress, and more money in our pocket to have new adventures. Celebrate!
